    Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023 9:30 am - 4 pm Location: 139 E Green Springs Rd, Gordonsville, VA 22942 Ages 16+ How do you start a plein air painting? What equipment does one use? How do you know when you're finished? Is plein air painting too hard for me? Whether you’re a beginner and want to learn the basic skills of plein air watercolor painting or an intermediate and need a “tune up,” join Catherine Hillis for a day of relaxed watercolor painting. The instructor will gently run you through supplies, how to set up for painting and how to select a topic. This is a time to get questions about plein air painting answered. Expect lots of demonstrations, common sense teaching, and one-on-one coaching. The workshop will be held at a beautiful farm in Louisa County, VA. Students bring supplies, lunch, snacks, and drinks.     Saturday Nov 4th 11am-12:30pm Safety & Self-Defense Workshop $35 includes instructor-led workshop & 1st drink after class (choice of beer, wine, cider, or N/A beverage) Join Roar Training instructor Julie Morrill (and assistant: advanced Krav Maga student Kristine) for a workshop on personal safety where you will learn how to keep yourself safe and, if necessary, fight back. The training will include safety tips, scenario discussions, and some empowering self-defense techniques. Bring your sense of humor and sense of adventure. All under-18 participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Recommended for ages 14+. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE? Safety basics, such as: How to use your awareness to identify potentially dangerous situations; What to do if you feel unsafe; How to respond in threatening situations; Basic tools for fighting back, including: the ideal stance to help maintain your balance and get away and “tools” for fighting, such as punches, kicks, elbows, and knees; Defending against common attacks, such as: wrist grabs, bear hugs, chokes, and being pushed to the ground.
