1. When are the polls open?

The 2023 Election Day is Tuesday, November 7, 6am – 7pm. For early voting information, please see the Election Calendar.

2. Why did my voting location change?

Virginia counties are required every 10 years to redistrict according to the census and state redistricting. Redistricting is a bi-partisan process intended to ensure that populations are represented fairly as they grow. 

The state underwent redistricting in 2022.  Louisa County moved from the 7^th Congressional District to the 5^th Congressional District. Redistricting occurs every 10 years and new boundaries are determined for each district by the Board of Supervisors. This includes voting location changes as well.

3. Where do I vote? How can I find my voting location?

You will vote at your voting location, which can be found on your voter registration card. If you do not know where your voting location is, you can look up this information online at Lookup (virginia.gov). 

Additionally, you may:

1. Reference the static map and the precincts list on our website.
2. Use our GIS Mapping tool.
   • Select Layers and check Voting Precincts Location, Voting Precincts and Voting Districts.
   • Enter your address and click Search.
   • Click Map It, then zoom out to see what precinct and district your residence is located in.
   • Click the flag in your precinct for voting location details.
3. Call the Voter Registration office at 540-967-3427 to request this information.  

All County precincts are open on election day from 6am - 7pm.

4. Why should I feel secure about the election process in Louisa County?

Republicans and democrats together run Virginia elections, and there are representatives of both parties that serve at every level. 6. How do I know who my current representatives are?

7. Do I need an ID to vote? What do I need to bring with me to vote?

You will not need your voter registration card on Election Day. 

You must show ID or sign an ID Confirmation Statement to vote. The most common IDs to use are your Virginia driver’s license or your Voter ID card, as these have a barcode that makes checking in easier.  Acceptable ID can be any one of the following:

• Your voter confirmation documents
• Your Virginia driver’s license
• Your Virginia DMV-issued photo ID
• Your U.S. Passport
• Your employer-issued photo ID
• Any other U.S. or Virginia government-issued photo ID
• Your valid Tribal enrolment or other Tribal ID
• Your Voter ID Card issued by the Department of Elections
• A valid student ID issued by a public or private school of higher education located in the U.S.
• A valid student ID issued by a public or private high school in Virginia
• A current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck containing your name and address
• A signed ID Confirmation Statement

8. How do I vote curbside?

Curbside voting is available for people aged 65+ or with a physical disability. Call the number posted outside of your precinct and an election officer will be out to assist you momentarily. A person accompanying the curbside voter may go inside and make an election officer aware.

9. Can I vote at the Office of Elections on Election Day?

No, the only place to vote on Election Day is your polling place.

10. I live in Mineral. Why do I not get to vote for town offices?

These are only for the people living within the Mineral corporate town limits.

11. If I have an absentee ballot, but decide I want to vote in person on election day, can I still vote at my voting location on Election Day?

Yes. If you no longer want to use your mail-in ballot, you must surrender your ballot to your voting location in order to vote in person. If you do not bring your mail-in ballot, you will have to vote a provisional ballot.

You can also drop off your completed mail-in ballot at any precinct location’s drop box located at the Chief’s table or the drop box at the Voter Registration office until 7pm. 

12. I am not registered to vote. Can I still vote?

You may register to vote on election day (called Same Day Registration) at the voting location assigned to your address and vote a provisional ballot.
