Civil Process Units
The Civil Process section of the division serves civil process throughout the County of Louisa, consisting of:
- Civil process ordered by the court
- Evictions
- Garnishments
- Juvenile summons and petitions
- Show cause orders
- Subpoenas for witness
- Warrants in debt
- Writs of possession
Court Security Units
The Court Security Unit of the Civil and Court Security Division, maintains the safety and security of all Louisa County Criminal and Civil Courts. The duties of members of the Court Security Unit include securing the buildings that house the actual court rooms, securing the entrance to all the court house buildings and bailiff service.Personnel
Assigned personnel serve as bailiffs in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, General District Court and the Circuit Court. Bailiffs are responsible for the safety and welfare of the judge, the jury, witnesses and everyone else in the courtroom.
Court Security Deputies provide transportation of inmates to and from courts, jails and surrounding jurisdictions. Extradition transports from jurisdictions outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia are included in their transportation duties. Citizen Transports for Emergency Custody Orders (ECO) and Temporary Detention Orders (TDO).
Not limited to the above, the division also assists the Patrol Division with calls for service. The Court Security and Civil Process Division is commanded by a Captain, a Lieutenant, 2 Sergeants, 1 Corporal and 8 deputy Sheriffs.
Prohibited in the Courthouse
Cell Phones, including watches with cell phone capabilities, Recording Devices, Cameras, including cell phones with a built-in camera.
Guns, knives, ammunition, pepper spray, mace, razor blades, illegal drugs or any other type weapon.
Any dangerous or hazardous material or property that could be used to injure or harm another person.
Courtroom Demeanor
The following are some items and activities not permitted in the courtrooms:
- Food and drinks are not allowed
- Gum chewing is not allowed
- Newspaper reading is not allowed
- Sleeping is not allowed
- Other disruptive activities or items, as observed by Court Security personnel
Proper attire is required in the courtroom. Clothing items not permitted are shorts, tank tops, flip-flops, any clothing with obscene language or pictures, and any clothing denoting gang affiliation. Head coverings and sunglasses will be removed prior to entry into the courtroom. Conversation in the court gallery will be kept short and will not disrupt court proceedings.
Any communication with inmates, whether verbal or non-verbal, is prohibited. Any communication with inmates will be cause for immediate expulsion from the courtroom with additional possibility of criminal charges being placed against you.
