Captain Jack Poindexter
Captain Jack Poindexter is a lifelong Louisa County resident with more than 35 years of law enforcement experience and has served under three different Sheriff’s. In 1989 Captain Poindexter began his law enforcement career with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol officer. After a few years of very proactive patrol work, Captain Poindexter took on the responsibility of handling the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office’s first narcotics detection K9 named Choco. After working with Choco for a few years, he was retired and Captain Poindexter was then assigned Cazar, the Sheriff’s Office’s first patrol dog. Captain Poindexter then spent many years as a K9 handler for the Sheriff’s Office before retiring his last K9 in 2006. Captain Poindexter was also awarded with the Mothers Against Drunk Driving award for having the most DUI arrest in Louisa County on multiple occasions. In 1994 Captain Poindexter was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Patrol Division where he had the responsibility of patrolling the county, answering 911 calls and supervising other patrol deputies on his assigned shift. Two years later Captain Poindexter was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant assigned to the Patrol Division. As a Patrol First Sergeant he was given the responsibility of supervising two patrol shifts as a front line supervisor while still actively answering calls for service. In 1997 Captain Poindexter was asked to be the lead investigator on one of Louisa County’s most gruesome homicides. As a result of his hard work, a life sentence was given to those responsible for the homicide. It was also in 1997 that Captain Poindexter began writing the DMV Highway Safety Grant that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment and funds to help reduce the number of traffic fatalities in Louisa County. This is something that Captain Poindexter still does to this day for the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office. Although still assigned to the Patrol Division, Captain Poindexter spent a great deal of time with the Narcotics Task Force assisting them in making undercover narcotic purchases in Louisa County. In 2006, after many years of patrolling Louisa County, Captain Poindexter was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant assigned to the Patrol Division. As a Patrol Lieutenant, Captain Poindexter was responsible for overseeing half of the Patrol Divisions staff and responsibility. In 2009 Captain Poindexter was promoted to the rank of Captain in the Patrol Division. As the division head, Captain Poindexter is responsible for overseeing all personnel, events, vehicles and assignments handled by patrol officers. When Captain Poindexter isn’t working he enjoys spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. |
