For those looking to discover more about the historical significance and heritage of Central Virginia then, start by picking a setting to lay your head at night. Prospect Hill Plantation Inn is an authentic 18th century plantation on a breathtaking 40 pastoral acres, situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains where you are sure to have a true relaxing experience. You can recline under the pool's shade pavilion, reflect by the garden gazebo, stroll the expansive grounds, hand-feed horses, sheep, and chickens while also experiencing fine dining at its best!

After breakfast, visitors can take a walking tour of historic Main Street where you will see history come alive in the historical buildings located there. If you aren't planning to stay at the historical Boxley Place Inn or Whistle Stop Bed & Breakfast near Main Street, make sure you visit these two locations to explore their rich heritage and history.

Take a trip over to the Sargeant Museum (lower left) located only a few short minutes from town to begin the driving tour (access guide here) of the Battle of Trevilian Station. The self-guided tour will take you to multiple  areas throughout the County where interpretive signs will provide you with the opportunity to learn and see more about each site that has been preserved from the Netherland Tavern to the General Custer's Trevilians House, the Trevilians Station itself (lower right), The Ogg Farm and the Dunn Farm, the Courthouse on main Street and a portion of the Virginia Central Railroad line that played a significant part in the heritage here. At the conclusion of the tour, visitors have the opportunity to travel to the Civil War Exchange Museum (lower middle)in Gordonsville for a tour of Virginia’s only standing Civil War Receiving Hospital.

Once your tour is complete, stop by the Bracketts Farm (lower left) located in the heart of the Green Springs Historical District to see a working farm dating from the 18th century. The farm serves as a focus for the Green Springs National Historic District which encompasses over 14,000 acres in the piedmont of central Virginia. It is a gateway to other areas within the district -- mostly comprised of large family farms, their fields and intermittent woodlots and ponds. After a day of exploring Louisa County’s rich heritage, enjoy a fine-dining experience where you are staying for the weekend, or visit Tavern on the Rail (upper right) – a unique and special dining establishment located in a beautifully restored 1837 building. Enjoy the beauty of this 170 year old general store that has been restored for your dining experience in a rustic, yet elegant atmosphere. The upstairs offers upscale yet relaxed dining.  The downstairs is welcoming and cozy for casual dining or a quick bite.  Reservations are recommended for Friday and Saturday nights.
