Tower Progress - Updated March 2nd, 2021
The Broadband Initiative, as approved by the Board of Supervisors, envisioned constructing seven towers and co-locating equipment on the two Public Safety Towers the County is building in the western part of the County. It was noted that some of these planned towers may not be constructed and others might, based on construction and actions of independent tower companies.
As of March 2nd 2021, five towers have been completed; Louisa County High School behind the Middle School ballfields, Jouett Elementary School, near the back of the property, Moss-Nuckols Elementary School, again near the back of the property, Trevilians Elementary, to the west of the soccer fields and one on Gammon Town Road on private property.
There is County-owned fiber in the ground connecting the towers on school properties to the County building and the Louisa Schools network. There are also back-haul radio links connecting all of the sites in redundant loops across the County.
Riverstreet has acquired SCS Broadband who was awarded a site-wide leasing agreement to locate their internet service equipment on all of the Broadband towers mentioned above and below. SCS purchased CVALink a few years back and currently serves many homes from existing towers and poles throughout Louisa County. Adding these Broadband Authority towers will increase their service areas dramatically. The company has applied for and received permission to convert all of their tower equipment to add LTE service providing better and faster internet. Click here for more information or to contact Riverstreet/SCSBroadband for internet service.
Co-locations are also planned for our radio links and WISPs to locate on a private tower in the Yanceyville area.
The 180' tower at Jouett Elementary is seen on the right with support guy wires. On the left, as seen from the tennis courts, the tower is barely visible. The radios, antennas and WISP access point to multi-point radios have not been installed in these photos. | ||
